In patients with severe heart, liver or kidney failure or ischemic heart disease, treatment with testosterone could lead to severe complications characterized by edema, with or without congestive heart failure. In this case, the treatment should be stopped immediately.
Testosterone can cause an increase in blood pressure. Therefore, Andractim should be used with caution in men with hypertension.
Testosterone levels should be checked before starting treatment and then at regular intervals during treatment. The dosage should be tailored to each patient, to ensure that testosterone levels are maintained at a eugonadic level.
In patients receiving long-term androgen therapy, the following laboratory parameters should be monitored regularly: hemoglobin level, hematocrit, hepatic function and lipid profile.
There is limited experience available with regard to the safety and efficacy of Andractim used in patients over 65 years of age. Currently, there is no consensus on the reference values of testosterone as a function of age. However, the decrease in physiological values of testosteronemia with age must be taken into account.
Testosterone should be used with caution in patients with thrombophilia as thromboembolic events have been reported in these patients on testosterone treatment, in studies and post-marketing follow-up.
